Somerset Tour - 2024

The Happy Tourists

Between 1997 and 2008 the Club enjoyed annual tours to various destinations, but after that there were no further tours until Vice-Captain Bill Greenway organised a very successful tour to the Isle of Wight in 2023. Buoyed by that success, Bill was persuaded to arrange a tour for 2024, and so it was a happy party of bowlers from Lilleshall, St.Michael's BC and Guilsfield BC, spent four nights away in Somerset, taking in five matches and generally having a splendid time.

Captain Sheila presented losing rinks with wooden spoons - to be worn at all times lest a fine became due - and top rinks received bags of sweeties (with one or two successful bowlers close to opening a sweet shop by the end of the week).

We were transported in comfort by Bakers Dolphin Coaches and enjoyed comfortable rooms and great food at the Grand Atlantic Hotel in Weston-Super-Mare.

"The Bard" did not write a tour ode this year, but new tourists were still required to join in singing the great Fred Wedlock song "The Vicar & the Frog" - with actions!

Lilleshall managed to win all five games, though the last, at Chew Stoke, by just four shots. This was a relief to the webmaster who trailed the jack with his last bowl of the final end resulting in a single shot when his rink had been holding five!
