On the hottest day of the year, so far, 8 stalwart players volunteered to play the NSC Cup 2-wood drawn pairs, postponed from earlier in the summer. It replaced a cancelled friendly game.
This made for a straightforward organisation, 4 pairs each playing 3 games in a round robin format. In order to ensure that the players were not over extended by the heat, each game consisted of 8 ends, with longer than usual comfort breaks between games. Playing towards the trees ensured that, after the first round of matches, one end of each rink was cooler, by being in shadow.
The drawn pairs were Rod & Liz, Frances & Rob, Paul & Sheila, Frank & Mike C. Rod & Liz got off to a strong start, winning their first game by 9 shots (12-3). Paul & Sheila were the other winners, by 6 shots (9-3). The second round of matches saw Rod & Liz drawn against Paul & Sheila. It was a tight match - all square going into the last end, where Rod & Liz took a single shot to win 7-6. This left Rod & Liz in pole position going into the final game. With 2 ends to go, they led Frank & Mike by 1 shot, but a 1 & a 2 on the final ends saw tham comfortable winners 8-4.
Rod & Liz were therefore the winners, keeping a 100% record over the afternoon. Runners up were Paul & Sheila with 2 wins.
Sheila, as Vice Captain, presented the NSC Cup to Rod & Liz.
