  • Jack Bayliss Cup Competition (May 2018)
  • Sixten club members who had not received invitations to a certain royal wedding took to the green in glorious sunshine to compete for the Jack Bayliss cup.

The four-wood drawn pairs competition was played as two "mini-leagues" of four teams, with each team playing the others in its league over eight ends.

In the "numbers" league the team of Ruth Lowe and Paul Mitchell were clear winners, having won all three of their games. In the "letters" league no team was unbeaten and three teams won two of their three games. Shot difference was therefore taken into account, which placed Frank Hill and Quentin Smith just ahead of Frances Hill and Don Cartwright.

The final was also played over eight ends. After dropping an initial three Paul and Ruth rallied and led 5-4 at the halfway stage. However Frank and Quentin then took a five and Ruth and Paul answered with a two (9-7). Frank and Quentin took a two on the critical penultimate end to go into the final end four shots up. Paul and Ruth build up a strong head with a chance of getting the shots required, but a trailed jack spoilt their opportunity and Frank and Quentin took a three to end up 14-7 winners - a scoreline that did not reflect the closely-fought final.

Our photos show the finalists and the winners receiving their trophy from President Thelma Stanley.
