Club members turned out in force on Thursday 23 August for the Ladies-v-Gentlemen challenge match. The weather was kind and Captains Sheila Payne and Mike Caird decided on a two-rink format over 16 ends, with the gentlemen changing rinks at 8 ends. Each team also made a few tactical substitutions to enable all players to take part.
Always keenly contested, the match is played for the Perpetual Challenge trophy. The ladies started strongly, winning the first 8-end segments 17-1 on one rink and 6-3 on the other. After light refreshments the gentlemen rallied, posting 12-1 and 8-5 wins, but could not overhaul the deficit and the ladies were victorious by 29 shots to 24.
Captain Mike presented the trophy to Captain Sheila and the trophy top piece was turned to show the jack on the ladies side to represent their victory.
