Twenty members took to the green on a bright and sunny afternoon to contest the first of the Club's one-day competitions - the 'Yardstick' competition for the Valerie Smith Memorial Trophy.
Players moved round a circuit in fours bowling from fixed mats to fixed jacks positioned at 24-28 metres. On completion of each end every bowl within one yard of the jack - as measured using the official 'yardstick' - scored a point.
Top scoring lady was Karvyon Rochell, but in the men's competition there was a tie between Quentin Smith and new member Chris Sherriff. To decide the winner the players faced each other across the green and bowled simultaneously to a single jack positioned between them. Chris drew to within about a foot to take the title.
