Disappointingly only twelve members were available to compete for the Matthews Plate ladies and mens drawn pairs competitions. With only four ladies playing a simple match of two 9-end sets of 4-bowl pairs saw Silvia Newbery and Sheila Payne - unbelievably drawn together for the third year running - return a two-sets to love win over Liz Caird and Theresa Hancock. Not only had Silvia and Sheila been drawn together yet again, but they recorded their third consecutive win! (previous results)
In the men's draw four pairs contested a round-robin tournament of three 8-end rounds of 4-bowl pairs. No pair finished undefeated, but Mike Caird and Mark Hussell's two wins put them just ahead of two teams with a 1-1-1 win-draw-loss record. (previous results)
Chairman Rod Payne made the presentations and was fulsome in his praise for new Competition Secretary Alan Harvey who had organised the competitions.
