Members and some guests enjoyed a fun afternoon on Saturday 23 August. There were 17 bowlers (2 played a half game each) divided between the Captain and the President. The teams had been drawn randomly and two games of triples plus one game of pairs were played over 18 ends, with a break half way for refreshments. At the break, the Captain's team were ahead by 11 shots, but the second half saw a slight improvement by the President's team which restricted the winning margin to 13 shots at the end. The final score was 53-40 in the Captain's favour. The Perpetual Trophy (normally used for the Ladies v Gents events) was changed to reflect that the Captain is a lady.
After bowling, the members and guests settled down to enjoy a buffet meal and some scrumptious desserts. This was followed by a raffle, for which more than 50 prizes had been donated.
As a result of the day's activities £400 was raised for the Midlands Air Ambulance. This will be taken to Cosford, together with the collection box which has been in the clubhouse all summer. We don't know how much is in the box as this can only be opened by the charity, but we hope that the final total will be close to last year's figure of £525.
