With numerous national and county competitions in progress only twelve members were available to play for the Matthews Plates ladies and gentlemen's drawn pairs competition. The six ladies and six gentlemen were drawn into three pairs who played a round-robin competition of 10-end matches.
In the men's league Mark Hussell and Mike Caird, last year's winners, were drawn together again and proved too strong for the other pairs, winning both their matches. Runners up were Clives Kimberley and Walmsley.
The ladies competition proved much closer with each pair winning one game and losing one. During the course of the last game all three pairs were, at some point, in the winning position and even a draw on points and shot difference was possible. However Theresa Hancock and Ruth Lowe scored well on the last few ends to take their shot difference high enough (+9) for the win, with Barbara Barlow and Liz Caird runners-up.
President Mike Caird presented the trophies, including miniature keepsake salvers for the winners and medals for the runners-up, all provided by Kath Matthews. He also thanked Competition Secretary Alan Harvey for his work organising the day. (Previous winners)
