Lilleshall suffered yet another loss by the narrowest margin, falling 2 - 3 away at Barbourne.
Both singles games were lost, so Lilleshall needed wins in the pair, triple and four to progress. Alan Harvey and Dave Aveley scored a good win against tough opposition and our triple of Peter Hancock, Quentin Smith and Chris Sherriff ran away with their game, conceding only four shots.
Our four of Dominic Simcoe, Rob Attwood, Mike Bradburn and Rod Payne started well and at halfway had a good lead. The Barbourne four gradually pulled back, and held a one shot advantage going into the last end, but Lilleshall found the single shot required to force an extra end. With just the skips' final bowls to be played Lilleshall held shot. The Barbourne skip had little option but to play weight and connected firmly with the head, sending the jack ricocheting to the back of the head, right in front of Barbourne's back bowl. Rod Payne's only chance was to negotiate a path through the scattered head and push the jack, and/or the Barbourne bowl (a non-toucher), into the ditch. He found a way through, but missed the target by about half a bowl, leaving Barbourne with the single shot required for the win.
