  • Bowlers with trophy

Eighteen members took to the green to contest the first one-day competition of the season, the "Yardstick" competition for the Valerie Smith Memorial Trophy.

Originally planned for five rounds of four ends, with each player using two bowls, the time went well and after half-time refreshments an extra bowl was added for the final two rounds. While some struggled a little to find the pace of the green, especially those who had played indoors during the Winter, others were soon peppering the jack.

Top lady, for the second year running, was President Kath Matthews with 27 points and top gentleman was Peter Hancock with 25. The trophy was presented by Chairman Rod and there was some merriment with Kath, who is "demure of stature" was photographed alongside Peter, who is about six foot fourteen! (Results history)
